LIM College has announced the appointment of Christopher J, Cyphers, Ph.D. as Executive Vice President. In this newly-created position, Dr. Cyphers will have direct oversight and responsibility for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Admissions and Institutional Research.  He reports to LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse and is a member of the College’s Executive Committee.

In announcing the addition of Dr. Cyphers, LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse said, “We are very excited to have Dr. Cyphers join LIM College in our most senior academic, student affairs, and enrollment management position. His wealth of experience and higher education leadership will go far as we position LIM College for increased academic excellence, enhanced experiential education and international expansion.”

Dr. Cyphers brings two decades of professional experience as an educator and administrator.  Prior to being named Executive Vice President of LIM College, Dr. Cyphers was President of the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) from 2008-2012. During his tenure there, Dr. Cyphers created six new degree programs; oversaw the design and construction of a 40,000 square-foot, LEED Platinum graduate center in lower Manhattan; undertook a successful rebranding campaign; presided over the largest enrollment increase in the school’s nearly 100-year history, greatly expanded NYSID’s fundraising activities, and elevated the school’s reputation in the U.S. and abroad.

On joining LIM College, Dr. Cyphers, said, “Coinciding with LIM College’s new five-year strategic plan, I am ready to help write a new chapter in the College’s history, one that will see the diversification of our programs, decisive steps towards offering programs fully online, and recruitment of students to LIM College from across the globe. Combining the online delivery of our programs with the internationalization of our student body, we are also looking towards delivering LIM College’s unique education in the business of fashion to students throughout the world. Naturally, our online education will offer the same high quality in teaching and academic support we provide our students on campus here in New York.”

Working closely with Dr. Cyphers is Dr. Milan Milasinovic, who has been promoted to Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Milasinovic was previously Vice President for Graduate Studies. In his new role he will oversee both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Prior to joining NYSID in 2008, Dr. Cyphers was for six years Provost at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), where he also taught cultural and intellectual history. Before his arrival at SVA in 1999, Dr. Cyphers served as Senior Research Associate and Chief of Staff for the Senior Vice Chancellor Emeritus for Urban Affairs at the City University of New York.

Dr. Cyphers holds a Ph.D. in American Social and Political History from the State University of New York at Albany and an M.A. in Liberal Studies from Wesleyan University (Connecticut). In addition to teaching at a variety of public and independent colleges and universities for 15 years, Dr. Cyphers is the author of The National Civic Federation and the Making of a New Liberalism (Praeger, 2002), book reviews, and articles on issues facing higher education. He has presented scores of refereed papers in his academic discipline, as well as those on the subject of art and education in the United States.
