Famed fashion designer Carmen Marc Valvo visited LIM College on February 24 to sign copies of his new book, Dressed to Perfection: The Art of Dressing for Your Red Carpet Moments (Rizzoli, February 2011).

The event, which was sponsored by LIM College’s Adrian G. Marcuse Library and attended by students, faculty, staff and alumni, also featured an installation of gowns from the designer’s collection and a question-and-answer session led by Fashion Merchandising faculty member Michael Palladino.

For more than 30 years, Valvo has been dressing women for special occasions with his signature eveningwear and cocktail dresses. Celebrities such as Tina Turner, Kate Winslet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Beyoncé, Katie Couric, Eva Longoria Parker, Queen Latifah, and Mary J. Blige have all worn his creations.

Written with Holly Haber and including forewords by Katie Couric and Vanessa Williams, Dressed to Perfection offers readers Valvo’s personal tips for dressing for their most special occasions, with guidance on silhouettes and hemlines, styling, accessorizing and more. Believing that beauty comes in many shapes and sizes, Valvo’s advice (like his designs) is centered on encouraging women to find their best features and let them shine.

All of Valvo’s personal proceeds from the sale of the book go to The National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance.
