Veterans Programs Key to Student Success and Career Achievement

Joshua has the distinction of witnessing the events that form the basis of National Geographic’s TV series, “The Long Road Home.”  Joshua is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Jamestown Business College (JBC), and plans to pursue a master’s degree. He respectfully credits JBC for helping him reintegrate into civilian life, which has enabled him to coach his son’s little league team as well as helping his fellow veterans by getting them involved with organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the local PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Program.

Staff Sergeant Mary Fuentes and her husband, John Samudio, fell in love in the United States Army. After devoting 11 years to her country, Mary decided to return to civilian life so she could be home with their daughter, Brooklyn. Yet, Mary still wanted to give back and help her fellow veterans. That’s when she enrolled in Monroe College’s Hospitality Program. Once her bachelor’s degree is complete, the pair plan to start their own business providing meals to needy veterans.

Students Urge for the Expansion of the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP); Perform a Musical Tribute

More than 70 students, faculty and administrators from New York’s degree-granting proprietary colleges visited Albany on Tuesday, February 28 to encourage lawmakers to increase funding for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), making it available to more New York students.

As part of the student advocacy activities, Five Towns College’s student Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Orchestra performed in the hallway between the Concourse and the Legislative Office Building. Through this performance, music education students demonstrate the importance of TAP and how the program helps talented degree candidates to develop their knowledge, skill, and competencies in music and music education.

APC delegates urged lawmakers to:

– Increase the Maximum TAP Award to $6,500
– Expand the TAP Income Threshold to $100,000
– Reinstate TAP for Graduate Students

Discussion topics included how APC member institutions are working to keep college affordable, the Tuition Assistance Program and the NYS Get On Your Feet Loan Forgiveness Program.

Class creates holiday window display for the Garment District Alliance

Students in LIM College’s Visual Presentation class have created a stunning holiday window display for New York City’s Garment District Alliance.

Titled “Rose-Colored Fantasy,” the installation makes liberal use of the color red to symbolize strength, beauty, hope and peace.

The Garment District Alliance is a not-for-profit corporation that works with local building owners and businesses to improve the quality of life and economic vitality in an authentic New York neighborhood.

The window display, LIM’s ninth for the Garment District Alliance, is open for public viewing at 215 West 38th Street in Manhattan from now until the end of December.

President of Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor to Give Keynote Address at LIM College’s 2017 Commencement Ceremony

liz-rodbellLIM College, which is located in New York City and focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, has announced that Liz Rodbell, President of Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor, will deliver the keynote address at the College’s 78th Commencement exercises on May 25, 2017 at Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Rodbell will also receive the College’s Distinguished Achievement Award and an honorary Doctor of Commercial Science degree at the ceremony.

As President of Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor, Ms. Rodbell oversees merchandising, marketing, creative, stores, e-commerce direction, and overall strategy for both banners within Hudson’s Bay Company. She divides her time between the company’s dual headquarters in New York and Toronto. She also serves on Hudson’s Bay Company’s Executive Committee.

Berkeley College Millennials Join Host Elaine Quijano on CBS Town Hall Election Broadcast

Five Berkeley College millennials share their opinions on the presidential nominees and the state of America in an appearance on “The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” tomorrow as part of a college Town Hall discussion. The segment, titled “Millennials – The Change Agents?” will air this Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 6:30 p.m., with the full discussion posted on CBSNews.com immediately following the broadcast.

Hosted by Elaine Quijano, who moderated the Vice Presidential Debate, the CBS Town Hall features interviews with millennial voters from 12 states, many of whom are voting for the first time. The interviews took place at YouTube Space NY, a 20,000-square-foot collaborative production facility above Chelsea Market in New York City.

LIM College to Offer Bachelor of Science Degree in Fashion Media

LIM College's new logoLIM College, which is located in New York City and focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, will offer a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program in Fashion Media starting in Fall 2017. This new program will focus on all aspects of fashion media, including the development of content across traditional, social media, and video platforms, as well as media business management and marketing.

The B.S. in Fashion Media is a unique interdisciplinary program that integrates study in the business of fashion and consumer behavior with the development of creative skills. Built upon a foundation in the humanities and social sciences, the curriculum will combine elements of the fashion industry, core business competencies, and hands-on experience in multi-media content production.

LIM College Professor Appointed to Fulbright Scholar Program Committee

NicoleKirplalaniNicole Kirpalani, Ph.D., Associate Chair of LIM College’s Marketing, Management & Finance Department, was recently appointed to the Fulbright Scholar Program Peer Review Committee as a discipline reviewer.

The Committee reviews applications to the Fulbright Scholar Program to identify the most qualified applicants and makes recommendations to a regional review committee.

With the support of the United States government and through partnerships with foreign governments, the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship Program sponsors U.S. and foreign participants for exchanges in the sciences, business, academe, public service, government, and the arts and helps to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and other countries.
