Holiday Mystique in Midtown: LIM College Students Create Display at the Garment District Space for Public Art

The students in LIM College Professor Marjorie Lee Woo’s Visual Presentation class recently unveiled “Holiday Disguise” – a stunning window display they created for the Garment District Space for Public Art (215 West 38th St.in Manhattan).

Their concept was inspired by Venice’s Carnivale, where participants don masks and costumes to add allure and mystique to the occasion. In the scene, a hostess is decked out in a one-of-a-kind mask to complement her jewel-toned gown. Her holiday tree is adorned with a variety of artfully rendered papier mâché masks and gifts, creating the perfect environment for an evening of fun.

Berkeley College in New York City Earns Place On 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

berkeleyBerkeley College in New York City is pleased to be placed on the 2014 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service.  The President’s Honor Roll recognizes higher education institutions whose community service efforts achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities.  This distinction is the highest federal recognition that colleges and universities can receive for community service, service-learning, and civic engagement.

“Berkeley College is proud to be recognized among these institutions at the national level for our commitment to civic engagement and community service,” said Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President, Berkeley College.  “The students, the communities and the college all benefit when students bring their expertise and their commitment to giving back into their local communities where they work and live.”

Berkeley College Fashion Profesor Engages High School Students At Deca NY Experience Conference

berkeleyDuring the first week of the DECA NY Experience more than 400 entrepreneurial and business-oriented high school students from throughout the United States explored aspects of fashion merchandising and marketing by looking at trends through a presentation and hand-on project led by Myra Butensky, Berkeley College Instructor, Fashion Merchandising and Management.

“The students engaged in the Fashion Trends Workshop are dynamic, creative and insightful individuals,” Ms. Butensky said. “They will be an asset in our workplaces and serve well as our next generation of business leaders.”

The DECA NY Experience Conference began Wednesday, December 3 and extends through Friday, December 12 at the New York Pennsylvania Hotel at 401 Seventh Avenue. This 90-minute hands-on fashion workshop sponsored by Berkeley College will take place next week from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on December 11 and 12. Ms. Butensky discusses how to identify and predict a trend, and incorporates the students’ perceptions of New York City – communicated through mood boards – as a learning tool.
